Virtual Horn Day


The School of Music’s Virtual Horn Day will take place on Sunday, April 18th, 2021

Horn Day! Enjoy a day with your favorite instrument! The Dewberry School of Music at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, USA invites the horn community to join this virtual day Sunday, April 18 to celebrate the horn! The fun begins at 10:30AM EST playing your horn with warmups led by Brass Gym co-creator and Tuba personality, Patrick Sheridan. At noon, special guest author Jasper Rees regales us about his journey to master the French Horn as recounted in his best-selling book, “A Devil to Play”.  “The President’s Own” U. S. Marine Band Hornists Tim Huizenga and Cecilia Buettgen will be showcased in a performance of J. S Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1. UVa professor Dr. Katy Ambrose, presents her research on early American horn players of African descent including George Washington’s hornist, William Lee. Learn how to enjoy Sousa marches in a presentation by GMU faculty member Amy Horn and then finish the day playing duets with her via the marvels of ZOOM!
