Born and raised in South Korea, Yerin Choi started learning the piano at the age of four. She completed her Bachelor of Music in piano performance at the Ewha Womans University. Upon her arrival in the United States in 2006, Yerin began her studies with Stewart Gordon at the USC Thronton School of Music, completing her Master’s degree in piano performance and a part of her ensuing Doctoral studies.
During her graduate studies, she was chosen to perform in the USC United Church Honor Piano Recital in both 2007 and 2008. In Korea, she was picked to play in the Series of Selected Musicians’ Concerts held by The Culture Foundation of Hwaseong City and gave a piano solo recital in Banseok Art Hall in 2013. In addition, she held annual Piano Duo recitals as a member of The Foundation of Yoon Music from 2012 to 2014, performing a variety of Piano Duo pieces, including Mozart, Arensky, Rachmaninoff, and Milhaud. As an accompanist, she performed with trombonist Jeonsik Yoo, the director of Music Department of Hanyang University, at Seoul Arts Center in 2014.
Yerin was a finalist in the 2009 Carmel Piano Competition held in California. She has also won top prizes from The Music Association of Daegu City, Youngnam University, and Daegu University in Korea.
She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in piano performance at George Mason University as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and student of Dr. Linda Monson.
