Ignacio Alcover, born in Barcelona, is the founder of Musica Aperta and serves as its Artistic Director. A performing arts ensemble that mixes music with other media, Musica Aperta’s shows have been presented at the National Gallery of Art and the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC and on a US tour in 2009.
In addition to performances in Europe and the Far East, Mr. Alcover was the soloist in the Boston premiere of Henri Dutilleux’s “…Tout un monde lointain…” for cello and orchestra and has recorded for Centaur Records and 4-TAY label. Live radio performances include France Musique, Radio Nacional Española and National Public Radio. In Washington, he has appeared in concert or recorded with ensembles and groups that range from the XXI Century Consort and Verge Ensemble to the Thievery Corporation.
Mr. Alcover has been the recipient of grants from the Fundación Juan March and the Fulbright Commission. He is a member of the the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and the Washington National Opera, and was recently awarded La Cruz de Oficial de la Orden de Isabel la Católica by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
