Christopher J. Redden Liotta has been an active professional musician in the Washington, DC area for more than 10 years. As a conductor, he is a Graduate Conducting Associate at George Mason University where, in addition to working with the Mason Jazz Vocal Ensemble, he has conducted the University Chorale, University Singers, Symphonic Band, and Symphony Orchestra. He currently serves as the Music Minister at Vienna Baptist Church. He was formerly the Musical Director for the Woodbridge Community Chorus and Music Director and Conductor for the Repertory Opera Theatre of Washington.
As a teacher, Mr. Redden-Liotta is an adjunct professor of music at George Mason University, where he has taught Fundamentals of Music and Aural Skills. He also teaches voice and flute in private studio settings.
As a singer, Mr. Redden-Liotta has performed with many ensembles, including the University of North Texas Jazz Singers, the Woodley Ensemble, National Symphony Orchestra, and the Professional Core of the Washington Master Chorale. As soloist, he has performed in several capacities including the world premiere and recording of the Requiem by Paul Leavitt, the East Coast premiere of Eternal Light: A Requiem by British composer Howard Goodall, and Handel’s Messiah and the Mozart Requiem with the George Mason University Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Redden-Liotta is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at George Mason University as a student of Dr. Lisa Billingham and Dr. Stanley Engebretson, and has also studied conducting with Anthony Maiello and voice with John Aler. He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, Chorus America, the Choristers Guild, and the College Music Society. He has also been selected as a Lovelace Scholar for 2014 by the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada. His research interests include the performance of early American vocal music and the music of Hugo Distler.
