Rare Music Manuscripts at Fenwick

Posted on 20.09.2018 by Darden

Thanks in large part to Simone Hawkins (BA Music, 2019), the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) has compiled a number of manuscripts from composers featured in the Norton Anthology of Western Music. A fascinating collection and an excellent resource for student research! This collection and the Special Collections Research Center can be found on the 2nd floor of the Fenwick Library. More about the SCRC can be read below. View a full listing of the collection here.

Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) holds a wide variety of rare and special books and manuscripts. We work closely with the Music and Theater Librarian, Dr. Steven Gerber, to focus our music- and theater-related collection development to bring in materials that are useful for both students and faculty here at Mason. All of our collections are intended to be used for research or personal interest. We have a welcoming and helpful Reading Room staff to assist with individual research, as well as a Seminar Room where we hold events and instruction sessions. You do not need an appointment to use these materials. We are open Monday – Friday, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm (and accept evening appointments during the semester). All of our policies and information can be found on our website at scrc.gmu.edu. Please contact Brittney Falter, the Research Services Coordinator, at speccoll@gmu.edu or call 703-993-2220 to schedule an appointment, request materials, or if you have questions.
