Issue 5

Dear Mason School of Music Family,

What an incredibly wonderful and intensely busy semester we are having in our School of Music! We hope you will join us at George Mason University for upcoming ensemble concerts as well as solo and chamber recitals.   Please support our amazing students in opera, jazz, symphony orchestra, wind symphony, percussion ensemble, and various chamber ensembles and jazz combos.  We are looking forward to our Wind Symphony’s performance at the Virginia Music Educator’s Conference this month in Hot Springs, VA and the Percussion Ensemble’s performance at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis.   Both of these Mason ensembles have won highly coveted performance spots in prestigious conferences.  In addition, we are proud of our alumni who continue to make music around the world.  Kudos to Cristian Perez (MM in jazz studies 2012, guitar) and Yana Hristova (DMA candidate 2012-2014, flute) who performed this week at the Mason Korea campus in Songdo.

At this joyful season of Thanksgiving, please know that I feel truly grateful for each of you and for your support of our wonderful Mason students.  I wish each of you a very happy Thanksgiving filled with memorable music as you are surrounded by family and friends.

Warm regards,

Dr. Linda Monson
Director, School of Music
