The FSO strengthens its commitment to serving students through high quality education and mentorship programs with the Fairfax Symphony Diversity Fellowship Program in our Fall 2022/Spring 2023 Season!
Created to help accelerate the careers of talented student musicians from backgrounds that are underrepresented in orchestras today, the FSO Fellowship is open to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level string students (violin, viola, cello, and double bass).
The program is designed to enhance opportunities for pre-professional musicians, encourage greater diversity in the field, and increase diverse representation in orchestras across the United States.

  • Personalized coaching and mentorship from FSO musicians
  • Master Classes with visiting soloists
  • Participation in mock auditions
  • Educational outreach with Title I Schools, gaining experience as teacher/performers
  • Chamber music and solo recital performance opportunities
The Fellowship is open to student musicians from backgrounds that have historically been underrepresented in symphonic orchestras pursuing undergraduate, master’s, doctorate, or artist diploma degrees in string performance. Eligible to students with the following backgrounds: African American, Hispanic/Latinx and Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or other U.S. Pacific Islander.
