Potomac Arts Academy at George Mason University is partnering with Little Hands for this fun-filled interactive event. Activities will engage both children and their families. Events scheduled to take place include:
*10AM –Instrumental Creation Hour, an opportunity for kids and their parents to design and create their own musical instruments, which they will then use for the concert.
*10:45-11:30 – “A Lesson in Teamwork” A fast paced, exciting and interactive concert featuring clarinetist Catina Franklin Sweedy and the “Take Five Woodwind Quintet.” In the “teamwork” program, the musicians struggle to work together, and the audience helps them to solve their problems, until they can successfully solve and play their music. Participants will engage with the musicians and learn about the basics of playing music together.
*11:30-12:30 – “Instrumental Explorations, a Journey through the Orchestra” After the concert, kids and their families will move on an interactive journey through the winds, brass, percussion and strings instrument family. George Mason music students will accompany participants on their trip through the orchestra, demonstrating the instruments and allowing hands -on opportunities.
Watch as your childrens' minds are opened to the creative transformation of music and to the time-honored value of positive teamwork. This will be a great family/group Saturday morning activity!
PARKING: Visitors may park in Lot K for this event, across the Pond from the Center for the Arts. . No permit required.
