Performance Opportunities:

Symphonic Band
Co-Directed by: Prof. John Kilkenny & Dr. Mike Nickens

The Symphonic Band serves a multi-faceted purpose in the musical life of GMU. In addition to providing music majors with continued experience and opportunity for growth and development, it also allows non-music majors an opportunity to continue their band participation throughout their college years. Numerous students who major in other disciplines participate in Symphonic Band not only for continued musical achievement, but for credit in academic areas as well. About 75 students in total, this versatile ensemble performs both standard and new repertoire for the concert band. Each semester the ensemble hosts guest conductors enrolled in the Master of Arts degree in Conducting at GMU. The ensemble has performed with numerous guest artists including Dale Underwood, Scott Shelsta, Dennis Edelbrock, and Russell Penney.
