The School of Theater and School of Music are collaborating yet again to share with you the many arts that our Mason students have to offer!

This prelude is a revival of commedia dell'arte, in which masked actors portray stock characters. Though we may not recognize it by name, this tradition is entrenched in many aspects of our culture, from tv and literature to the stage!

After the prelude, Mason Opera will present Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitorsa work that captures the timeless mystery and glory of Christmas. Menotti drew inspiration from medieval nativity paintings in writing this one-act opera, which had its premiere performance on Christmas Eve in 1951. He artfully combined modern and traditional musical styles in his composition. The opera's moving story and music will certainly get audiences in the Christmas spirit!
