JAZZ ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS

JAZZ ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS

(Current Mason Students)

The Jazz Ensembles are open to all GMU students (instrumentalists & vocalists) regardless of degree.

Auditions for placement in the Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Chamber Ensembles (Combos) occur the first week of every EVERY semester. The audition includes jazz scales, improvisation, a prepared piece and sight reading.

Spring 2013 Jazz Ensemble Auditions will be held:  Wednesday, January 23rd, 11:00am - 7:00pm.

The prepared piece for Spring 2013 is "What Is This Thing Called Love?" by Cole Porter in C Major.  Be prepared to play the head "melody" once through and improvise (vocalists scat) one (1) chorus over the changes.  The student is repsonsible for finding the sheet music and checking out recordings prior to the audition.

To sign up for an audition, visit the Seating Placement Auditions page.
