Dr. Rochelle Oedemann earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in 2004 and Master of Music degree in 1998, both from Rice University. At Rice she was a student of esteemed clarinetists Michael Webster and David Peck. She earned her Bachelor of Musical Arts from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 1995 under the tutelage of Lawrence McDonald. While studying at Rice, she performed extensively with the Shepherd School Symphony and Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Larry Rachleff. Dr.Oedemann substituted for the Houston Symphony on several subscription concerts under the baton of Maestro Christoph Eschenbach and held the position of Bass Clarinetist with the Houston Grand Opera. She also performed with the San Antonio and New World Symphonies. Her considerable experiences in music festivals include the Aspen Music Festival, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Breckenridge Music Festival, and the National Orchestral Institute. An active freelancer in the DC area, Dr. Oedemann has performed with the American Festival Pops Orchestra, on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and in venues such as the Hylton Performing Arts Center Strathmore, and the National Cathedral. From 2002-2008, Dr. Oedemann was a member of the United States Air Force Concert Band under the command of Colonel Dennis Layendecker. While serving in the Air Force Band, she performed with the Air Force Chamber Players and Symphony Orchestra, and was tour soloist in 2004 with the Concert Band. Dr. Oedemann was appointed Adjunct Professor of Clarinet at George Mason University School of Music in 2010 and resides in Fairfax with her husband and two children.
