Dr. Stanley Curtis, Trumpet
Status: PMI professor
Teaching Positions: Private Music Instruction in Trumpet

Stanley Curtis has developed a multi-faceted career as both a modern and historic trumpeter. A member of the U.S. Navy Band since 1998, he also performs with a variety of other ensembles, including the Washington Bach Consort, Apollo’s Fire, the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, and The Bach Sinfonia.  In addition, he holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at George Mason University, where he also hosts the annual Historic Trumpet Division of the National Trumpet Competition. After studying at the University of Alabama, the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam (on a Fulbright Scholarship), he received his Doctorate of Music from Indiana University, where he researched the symbolism of the cornetto for his final paper. He has written articles for the International Trumpet Guild Journal and the Historic Brass Society Newsletter. Before his Navy career began, Dr. Curtis served as Assistant Principal Trumpet in the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (in Spain) and as Principal Trumpet with the Evansville (Indiana) Philharmonic. In 1995, he won Third Prize at the Altenburg Baroque Trumpet Competition, held in Bad Säckingen, Germany.
